01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood a short walk from Hankyu Katsura Station, Kitchen Ishibashi operates out of a standalone house without an exterior signboard. Operating strictly by reservation, the dining room carries the calm, unhurried air of being invited into a private home, where thoughtfully composed multi-course meals arrive at a leisurely pace for both lunch and dinner.
The omakase course opens with a comforting soup highlighting pure vegetable flavors and an artfully arranged seasonal appetizer plate. Dishes progress smoothly through fresh sashimi, steamed specialties, and crisp fried items, punctuated by a refreshing palate cleanser of slippery tsuro-tsuro wakame seaweed. The savory climax often features a slowly braised, meltingly tender cut of meat. At lunchtime, the menu also makes room for an original house-made keema curry, simmered with an array of vegetables to draw out deep savor and served alongside a spicy paste so diners can adjust heat levels to taste.
Drink selections are chosen to complement the cooking, anchored by Shiratama no Tsuyu as the staple sweet potato shochu. The dining room is completely non-smoking, leaving guests free to savor dessert, coffee, or sword-bean tea at the end of the meal without disruption. Because seats are limited, the restaurant requires advance bookings and accepts payment exclusively in cash, making a little advance planning essential.
